New perspectives, lifelong memories
Every year there are many trips and tours organised with different year groups. Embarking on educational tours, and submerging students into cultural experiences have been found to be invaluable for development and understanding. It is a perspective that cannot be taught. Not only that, but students make lifelong memories with their peers.
french and german exchanges
The Modern Foreign Languages Department has established valuable links with schools in Germany and France. Each year TY and 5th Year students travel to the country relevant to the language they are studying. They stay with a host family and attend school. Students partaking in the German exchange spend the second week of their trip on work experience. A student from the host family returns to Ireland for the second leg of the exchange and attends our school for some of their stay. They also visit some well-known Irish landmarks.
European tour
Each year students in second, transition and fifth year are offered the opportunity to travel to a European country to experience a different culture and to visit well known tourist sites. In previous years students have travelled to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Rome, Paris, Lake Garda and Venice in Northern Italy. This year’s European tour is to Rome and Sorrento. Students will embark on this 4-day adventure during the Easter holidays.
bonding trips
Bonding trips are a great way of promoting wellbeing and strengthening relationships within a year group. Some examples of recent bonding trips include the September trip to Ballyhass lakes for our Leaving Cert students. Also, in September our Transition year students had an overnight trip to Tramore for a surfing adventure. In December, our first-year students went ice-skating and enjoyed some retail therapy in Mahon Point.
educational field trips
Different subject departments will organise relevant field trips throughout the school year. Examples include an ecology trip to Fota Island, an art trip to Newgrange in Co. Meath and to the Crawford Art Gallery, a visit to the BT Young Scientist exhibition, a field trip to Ballycotton beach for Leaving Cert Geography students and visits to Moorepark and open farm days for senior cycle Agriculture Science students.
career options cork
Leaving Cert students attend an annual career exhibition, organised by the Institute of Guidance Counsellors in the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork. College personnel from all over Ireland and the UK attend this event and are available to answer questions that students may have regarding different careers.
college open days
Outings to college open days are organised for senior cycle students. Leaving Certificate Applied students visit PLC colleges. Examples of colleges visited include St John’s College, College of Commerce and Colaiste Stiofan Naofa.
