First Year Application Procedures
Advertisements are placed in the local newspaper during September or October to formally announce details regarding open night in October. Advertisements are also placed on the school website. A notice board is placed at the school entrance to also announce details of the school's Open Night.
The Principal visits primary schools in the catchment area to speak to sixth class pupils and primary school staff to inform them about open night. A letter of invitation to open night is distributed to all students.
An Open Night - for parents/guardians and prospective students is held every year (usually in October – the date is advertised in the Avondhu and on the school website). The following is available to parents/guardians/students during open night:
An opportunity to view the facilities
An opportunity to talk with some of the student body, speak to teachers as well as listening and observing the presentations being made.
A comprehensive Enrolment pack is available to all prospective students.
The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (s) and the first year head visits the local primary schools to liaise with sixth class teachers and request relevant information regarding pupils.
School in Action – 6th class pupils are given the opportunity to visit our school during school hours and engage in activities that make up a typical school day in secondary. This usually occurs in late November or early December.
