Sport

The extra-curricular aspect of education is a growing part of the school and this year has seen further growth in this area. Sport is an essential part of a student’s schooling. It teaches team skills and fair play. It promotes leadership and of course there is lots of fun involved too! Sport also allows students to excel in an area other than the classroom which is really important.

After school sports are available for all students from Monday to Thursday making the best of our facilities.

Monday          –           Soccer

Having competed in various blitzes in the past, the school has decided to make soccer more readily available to students. Training takes place on Monday after school. At the moment there is a Junior team with a view to having both junior and senior going forward.

Tuesday         –           Gaelic Football

Football is been the main sport in the school. The school field team at both Junior and Senior level. The Munster tournaments take place before Christmas while the Cork Colleges competitions take place after Christmas. There are some very talented players in this area from a range of clubs including Mitchelstown, Kildorrery, Ballylanders and Ballyporeen.

Wednesday   –           Basketball

The students at Presentation Mitchelstown have over the years continuously achieved great success both at junior and senior level Basketball. Their commitment and determination to the sport is exemplary. Noreen Piggot comes in to train all students every Wednesday after school and the numbers at training have been very high.

The school enter both the All-Ireland Colleges and Cork Colleges competitions. Games for the Junior and Senior teams take place before Christmas while games for the 1st year and 2nd year teams take place in the new year.

Thursday        –           Camogie

Camogie has also been introduced to the school and there has been a good response by the students. Numbers at training have been high and the school will definitely compete in the Junior competitions and hopefully field a team at senior level also. There has already been a steady improvement in the standards at training.

Horse Riding

The school has an active equestrian club. You can check this out on facebook at Presentation Secondary Equestrian club. Like our page and keep up to date with all our events and activities.  If you wish to join this club, you do not necessarily need a horse as some events are organised at Hillcrest Riding Centre where a number of fun days have been organised in the last year.  The school also competes in showjumping and cross country events.

Tennis

Presentation Secondary  School continues its long standing relationship with the Mitchelstown Tennis Club. Students from the school hold a weekly training session at the club with coach Catherine O Keeffe. The Presentation School recognise that the Tennis Club is an excellent facility that the town provides and is keen to utilise it for the continued extra-curricular activities of its Students.  The Presentation School is keenly aware of the importance of fitness in our lives and also how exercise can benefit Students through increased academic concentration. The School is also confident that it will someday produce a Wimbledon winner!
