Texaco Children’s Art Competition Winner!

🎨🖌️The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with an unbroken history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955. Presentation secondary school is proud to announce that their very own Amy O’Brien has come second in category A (16-18). This is an incredible life long achievement for Amy and is testament to her incredible artistic ability. With many thousands of artworks received, this year's entry level was very notable particularly in relation to the quality of work received. Amy along with her family and Art teacher attended the awards ceremony in the Morrison hotel in Dublin on Thursday the 13th of April. It was at this event that Amy was surprised with the additional news that her winning artwork along with three other artworks from this year's Competition will be exhibited at the prestigious 24th International Arts Festival in Tokyo's National Art Center in August at the kind invitation of the International Foundation for Arts and Culture (IFAC). Amy will also recieve a cash prize of €1,000 and €150 worth of Art materials. The painting titled ‘The Bond’ is a sentimental still life. The painting depicts a carefully chosen array of objects including her grandmother’s wedding ring, left to her and a series of romantic novels eg Romeo and Juliet. She wanted to compare the dramatic love described in stories to the eternal, solid love to be found in real life. This piece is an acrylic on canvas. In the words of NCAD professor Gary Granville, this achievement will follow you for the rest of your life, never underestimate the magnitude of winning such a prestigious award. Everyone in presentation and beyond is very proud of Amy’s achievement.
