| DEAR PARENT,
The National Parents Council post primary (NPCpp) has, for a long time now, pursued our policy to give Parents a strong voice in the education of our children.
The Department of Education and Skills has now proposed some changes to the legislation in our educational system – They are introducing a Parent and Student Charter Bill 2016 which will determine the parents’ role in education for many years to come.
This Bill will require every school to consult with and involve parents and students more in the running of the school, and to publish and operate a Parent and Student Charter.
NPCpp welcomes this positive step and the recognition it brings to parental involvement in the education of our children.
Minister Richard Bruton has directed that parents be consulted through NPCpp and we have created the attached survey to ensure that we can properly reflect what you would like to see being implemented through the Charter.
Your thoughts and ideas are crucial! So please take a few minutes (10-15 max) to complete and return your response.
Please click on this link to have your voice heard:

Help us to reach out to as many parents as possible – Please share this survey with your friends, family and other parents in your school.
Thank you!

The AGM of The Federation of Catholic Secondary Schools Parent Associations will be held on Saturday February 25th 2017 at the Maldron Hotel, Portlaoise.

In support of the Cycle Against Suicide campaign, Presentation Secondary School will embrace the colour orange on Friday 17th February. We will have a Zumbathon to encourage everybody to get active and ask students to wear something orange in support of the cause.
Six students participated in the annual Ceist BAKE OFF on Tuesday, 31st January. The creative confections were shaped into a variety of stunning shapes and designs and their entries have now been forwarded for consideration by the judges. Good luck girls – wouldn’t a finalist’s place be the icing on the cake!
On Wednesday the 1st of February, Transition Year students from Presentation Secondary School attended ‘Briery Gap Drama Competition’ in Macroom, Co. Cork. This year’s production was called ‘The Evil Eye of Gondor’ The students gave a spectacular display of this exciting adventure story which revolved around the age old battle of- good verse evil. The students created their own props and inventively made their own costumes. A stunning combination of effective sound effects and enchanting acting from all the cast resulted in a tremendous performance by the students. Adjudicators of the competition reported that it was “an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable performance”. Well done to all students and teachers that worked on this production.

Parent and Student Charter Bill 2016 (1)
Dear Parents
Agenda Item for your next Parent Association meeting.
The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton T.D., published the General Scheme of an Education (Parent and Student Charter) Bill 2016 on 5th December 2016. Under this legislation all schools will have to develop a Parent and Student Charter.
The circular from the Department of Education and Skills and the General Scheme of this Bill are attached to this email. These outline and explain the intentions of the bill. Also attached is an explanatory document setting out the basis for introducing a statutory charter in each school.
The Minister intends to publish statutory guidelines which will direct how the Parents and Student Charter will be developed locally in each school. The purpose of this communication with your Parent Association is to involve your school in the consultation process to develop these guidelines.
As the National Parent Association for Voluntary Catholic Schools FED-CSSPA is writing to all schools to invite your involvement in this process. We are asking you to put this on the agenda of your January and February meetings for discussion. Attached are documents to assist you in this discussion, Topics for Discussion and a suggested Feedback form. Please feel free to use this feedback form or to submit your own document.
We are also inviting you to attend your National Annual Parent Conference on 25th February 2017 where a feedback session on the Parents and Student Charter will finalise our submission to the Department of Education and Skills.

Seven of our transition year students are attending the Model United Nations Conference which is being held in Cork City Hall, this week. The four-day simulation event will give the girls a great chance to learn how countries develop international relations while also learning about the role of the United Nations. We wish the girls the very best for the week.
