Transition Year students, along with a small number of fifth year girls attended a the ‘I Wish’ Stem careers event on Feb 12th.
Dairygold hosted this unique event in Mallow to promote science, technology, engineering and math (Stem) subjects and careers to female students in north Cork. Minister of State at Department of Foreign Affairs Sean Sherlock opened the ‘I Wish’ regional pod. Students were given the opportunity to meet with and speak to people working in companies such as Dairygold, Teagasc, Kostal, EMC and Core.
Speaking in Cork where she officially opened the I Wish project, Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan said such initiatives were important in highlighting “the really positive career opportunities that exist for female students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (Stem). The girls then attended a series of I Wish events in Cork City Hall highlighting the career opportunities in the sciences. The event had some of the most remarkable female role models Google, Twitter, CoderDojo, Pfizer and PepsiCo and many more talking, demonstrating and interacting with students.
Cork born medic and Channel 4 host Pixie McKenna and Serena Mc Carthy of Google gave inspiring speeches at the event.

TV3 news was there to capture the event and interviewed two of our students, Annette O’Donnell and Ciara Leonard. There was great excitement back at school where students watched the girls live on TV!

‘Come to the Cabaret’

Students in Presentation Secondary School are still basking in the glory of the huge success of last week’s musical production, “Come to the Cabaret”.
The lively audiences were treated to incredible performances show casing the real talent of singers, dancers, actors and actresses in Presentation Secondary School and CBS Mitchelstown.

There were two matinee shows for the primary schools and three evening shows. “Come to the Cabaret” entertained the crowds with acts from ‘Back to the 80s’, ‘Greased Lightning’, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Mamma Mia’. The variety of the scenes and songs were all part of this show’s magic.

The witty script welcomed a return of previous stars Eve O’Sullivan, Linda Walsh, Carol Goff and Casey Hynes and saw breathtaking performances from new faces Roisin Murphy, Shannon Brennan, Sally McCarthy, Shauna Maunsell, Andrea Conway, Eadaoin Joy, Tyanah O’Rourke to name but a few.
The electrifying energy brought to you on stage is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our musical director Ms Edel McEniry, director Ms Winnie Fitzgerald and choreographer Tracey Roche. It is also a credit to the parents and families of all students involved.

There was extensive student involvement in the production of the show seeing Laura Guerin (5th Year) choreograph Riverdance and Courtney O’Connor and Rebecca O’Donnell (Transition Year) choreograph Man in the Mirror. Emma O’Brien (Transition Year) looked after the lighting and Tyanah O’Rouke (5th Year) designed the advertisement poster and was responsible for all set design.

We would like to thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing you at our next production, ‘Mamma Mia’, which will be hitting the stage on 10th, 11th and 12th of December 2015.
