PresActiv8 kick started many weeks ago and due to popular demand, it will continue for the rest of the school year! It is an initiative incorporating fitness, healthy eating and positive mental health.
Students begun the program by completing the ‘bleep test’ in their P.E. classes. The test will be repeated at the end of term to highlight your progress!
Each day at lunchtime students and staff have walked, ran or jogged a loop around the town. The aim was to complete a 10km/half-marathon or marathon distance over the initial four weeks.
On Tuesdays, senior students could avail of an hour’s free circuit training in the leisure center from 4-5pm. The running club on Thursdays has been particularly active, our tennis players have had Munster coach, Sinead Dunne coming to coach them each Thursday and all after school sports have also been going ahead.
Breda Carr, Pilates and Yoga instructor, took our junior students for Pilates, Frank Murphy ran Taekwon-Do classes for all students and Home Economics’ week incorporated a healthy eating campaign. Numerous positive mental health initiatives have also been run in the classroom.
Just before the Easter break, the whole school took part in a 8km run/walk/jog around the by-pass as a school fundraiser.
The lunch time run will continue every Monday and Wednesday until the end of the school year.
